South Facade

South facade

The castle's south face is gone, destroyed during the Civil War in the mid 1600s. This wall contained the kitchen ovens, and their destruction not only eliminated a wall but symbolically and literally removed the castle's ability to support itself. The low wall that remains was actually built in the 19th century. This is another façade whose appearance we can only imagine.
